The project forms part of a framework agreement for the renewal of railway track infrastructure along the narrow-gauge tourist lines of inland Sardinia.

The routes concerned run through areas of significant cultural and environmental value, connecting mountainous and hilly inland territories to coastal areas. The lines involved are Mandas–Arbatax, Sassari–Tempio–Palau, Isili–Sorgono and Macomer–Bosa.

The works include the installation of prestressed concrete sleepers with a timber finish (Linea Storica model by Overail), together with ballast rehabilitation, in order to enhance safety, durability and integration with the surrounding landscape and heritage context.

The first operational phase currently underway concerns the Sadali–Villanova Tulo section of the Mandas–Arbatax line.

Salcef S.p.A. is responsible for surveying activities, material supply and execution of the works.
