The current corporate structure of the Salcef Group was established in 2014 to meet the challenges of the global market and offer a wide range of integrated solutions that enhance the experience of over sixty years of activity.
The process began in 1948 in Italy, but has followed an international vocation, leading to expansion on the European market and now to Africa and the Middle East.
Salcef’s history is characterized by a series of corporate acquisitions that have enabled the Group to make major investments and to create increasingly complex infrastructures.
A dynamic industrial vision and constant attention to technological innovation have made Salcef a major player in the global railway sector.
Salcef, whose original name was Cosfer, starts operating in Italy in the field of railway construction.
The Salciccia family acquires full control of Salcef. The company has 100 employees and the overall business is concentrated in Italy.
Acquisition of Euro Ferroviaria, an Italian company already operating in the same sector, mainly in Southern Italy.
Acquisition of Pasolini VCB, another Italian company already active in the same sector, mainly in Northern Italy. Salcef’s workforce reaches 350.
Establishment of the Romanian Branch and start of a contract for renewal works on the Bucharest – Constanța railway line.
Acquisition of Spie Rail Italia, originally named Cariboni, operating in the field of electric traction, substations and technological systems. Salcef’s workforce reaches 400.
Salcef designs, produces and patents a new model of Automatic Slab Track Formwork Casting System, used for the first time in the construction of the Rome tramway lines.
Establishment of the Croatian Branch and start of a contract for renewal works on the Vinkovci – Tovarnik railway line.
Production of the MCB-01 Track Laying Train (patented by Salcef/Sorema), thanks to which Salcef is able to lay up to 2,000 m of track per day.
Establishment of a new factory for the construction and maintenance of rolling stock, named “ORS – Officine Riparazioni Speciali” in Fano (Italy).
Establishment of the Polish Branch and beginning of the renewal works on several railway lines of the Polish national rail network.
Establishment of an Egyptian public-private company named “Salcef-Siegwart” and construction of a fully-mechanised plant in Helwan (Cairo) for the production of the first African monoblock concrete sleepers complying with European standards.
Establishment of the Egyptian Branch and start of a contract for track renewal on 290 km of the Cairo – Aswan railway line for the Egyptian national rail network.
Establishment of the Abu Dhabi Branch and start of construction of the first railway line in the UAE, the Shah–Abshan–Ruwais railway line, for Etihad Rail.
Preliminary design of a new transport system for the Maputo and Matola districts, based on integration and cooperation between the surface metro system, tramway lines, BRT and bus lines.
Acquisition of the I.R. design company, already active in railway and infrastructure design.
Startup of an innovative industrial strategy, which invests in the construction of modular platforms, such as the SGMNS multipurpose wagon.
Salcef reorganises its structure by creating the “Salcef Group” and establishing the “SRT – Salcef Railway Technology” company and the “RECO – Railway Engineering Company”.
Acquisition of the contract for the Riyadh Metro Line 3 Project, involving the construction of 90 km of slab track.
Acquisition of Tuzi Costruzioni, operating in the fields of track maintenance, electrical stations and substations and infrastructures with more than 100 employees. Salcef’s workforce reaches 725 permanent staff: 600 in Italy and 125 abroad.
Establishment of the Salcef S.p.A. Saudi Arabia Branch.
Acquisition of Vianini Industria, owner of an important Italian plant that produces railway sleepers and other concrete productions.
