Salcef unveils the Vulcano 34M Rail Grinder

The Salcef S.p.A. fleet is enhanced by the new Vulcano 34M Rail Grinder conceived, designed and built in the production plants of subsidiary SRT Railway Technology.
Vulcano 34M is a new rail grinder for tracks and turnouts with a commercial value of over ten million euros: a flexible, new-concept solution that has obtained authorization to circulate and has already been successfully inaugurated at Salcef work sites.
The vehicle is a real construction site train with a total length of 67.22 meters, made up of four units and with a maximum speed of 100 km/h. Its modular design means it can be made up of one to six units with a variable number of 10 to 68 grinding wheels.
Vulcano 34M is designed and built in compliance with EN reference standards. The machine is directly interconnected with the user’s central operating system, fully complying with Industry 4.0 model requirements in terms of digitalization of production processes. The rail grinder is equipped with diesel engines, which meet the specifications of European Regulation 2016/1628 – STAGE V regarding exhaust gas emissions, and with systems for the collection and disposal of production residues.
The new machine was designed and built by SRT Railway Technology, a Group company that develops and builds railway technologies, machines and equipment. SRT has an in-house design centre at the forefront of the sector, and indoor production facilities of approximately 13,000 m2 with an internal link connected to the railway network.
Gilberto Salciccia, Salcef Group President and creator of Vulcano 34 states: “Vulcano 34 is a high-productivity rail grinder, developed through years of research and dedication by a young, efficient and close-knit team. We are sure we are offering our customers a cutting-edge product, also because in the design and experimentation phases we benefitted from the valuable experience of other Salcef Group companies. We are investing a lot of resources in developing the Railway Machines Business Unit, which can leverage opportunities offered by new production trends closely associated with digitization, eco-sustainability and the industry 4.0 transition plan, most effectively.
