Project Description
The project involves the modernization of the Caransebeș-Timișoara-Arad railway line, a strategic infrastructure for passenger and freight traffic in western Romania and a key connection towards the Hungarian border.
The intervention covers the Timișoara Est–Ronaț Triaj (Lot 3) and Ronaț Triaj–Arad (Lot 4) sections, for a total length of approximately 69 km, including the reconfiguration of the Aradu Nou–Glogovăț line.
The project forms part of the national programme for the modernization of the Romanian railway network and aims to bring the infrastructure into compliance with European interoperability standards, improving line performance and allowing operating speeds of up to 160 km/h.
The works include the upgrade of the railway track, the modernization of technological systems and the implementation of advanced signalling and safety systems.
Scope of Work
Salcef’s activities include:
- track geometry improvements and increase of track bearing capacity
- doubling of the line along the planned sections
- track renewal and replacement of turnouts
- vertical realignment of the track level
- installation of electronic interlocking systems
- implementation of the ERTMS system (ETCS Level 2 + GSM-R)
- modernization of telecommunication systems
- renewal of the overhead contact line and traction power substations
- installation of the SCADA system
- installation of switch heating systems
