Arcisate-Stabio: completion of the new line to Switzerland

Salcef has laid the last track of the railway line that directly connects Italy and Switzerland.
On Thursday October 5th, Salcef completed track laying to connect the Arcisate-Stabio railway with the section on the Italian-Swiss border. The new double-track international railway line will directly link Varese (Italy) with Mendrisio (Switzerland).
Track works are almost complete. Salcef is currently finishing track levelling activities and commissioning electric traction and signalling systems.
Salcef carried out the work with a MCB-01 track laying train patented by Salcef-Sorema, a state-of-the-art vehicle that allows the installation of 2,000 m of track per day.
The commercial activation of the line is scheduled for December 2017 and, when fully operational, it will offer direct connections from Milan Malpensa Airport to Lugano and Bellinzona.
