Salcef completes tunnelling on the Arcisate-Stabio line

19 July 2017
Salcef has completed the Bevera tunnel, concluding excavation works on the new Arcisate-Stabio railway line linking Italy and Switzerland.
The Bevera tunnel is about 1 km long, with a central section of 860 m created as a bored tunnel and two lateral sections built with the cut-and-cover method. The presence of loose soil meant consolidating the excavation face with jet grouting and micro-piles.
On 17th July, after completing all tunnelling, Salcef began laying the new track, the overhead line and the signalling system while simultaneously carrying out civil works, including three new stations.
The commercial opening of the new Arcisate-Stabio line has been confirmed for December 2017 and the line will represent a substantial change in connections between Italy and Switzerland.
