Salcef for the new Cagliari metro
Salcef for the new Cagliari metro

Salcef will take part in expansion work on the light metro in Cagliari, Sardinia. The project, co-funded by the European Union, involves the extension of Line 3, with the construction of six new stops.
ARST S.p.A., the company responsible for public transport in the Sardinia region, has entrusted the construction of a new section of Cagliari’s metro Line 3 to the joint venture of which Salcef is a member.
The contract is financed with over 18 million euros and includes the final design, supplies, and the construction of a 2.5 km section with six new stops.

The Line 3 extension will allow passengers to easily reach the university campus and the hospital from the centre of Cagliari. According to initial estimates, the work will involve over 7,000 potential passengers a day, including citizens and tourists.
The project will bring numerous benefits in terms of liveability, improving mobility and reducing traffic and pollution.
Salcef will be responsible for both track construction and electric traction works.
The narrow gauge (950 mm) line will be built using the Rheda City ballastless track system, successfully used in various European capitals.
The track will consist of an encapsulated grooved rail installed on bi-block sleepers, embedded in a 250 mm thick concrete slab, with a single layer of reinforcement.
The Salcef Group has proven experience in the construction of tramways and metro lines, thanks to important projects in Italy and abroad such as the Riyadh Metro Line 3 and the Bucharest Metro Line 5.
