From 11 August to 6 September 2025, the Salcef Group will upgrade Roma Termini’s tracks 1 and 2 East with FAST, its slab-track system.

Roma Termini, the main railway hub of Rome and one of Europe’s largest stations by passenger traffic, will undergo a railway superstructure renewal.

On behalf of RFI, the Salcef Group will replace the existing ballasted tracks with the FAST System, a slab-track solution based on prefabricated reinforced-concrete slabs.

The FAST System results from the synergy between Salcef Group companies: Overail manufactures the slabs, while SRT has designed and built the special installation machinery, such as the slab laying train and the concrete batching train.

The slab laying train is a mechanized system for placing precast slabs even on single-track lines, requiring minimal operators and delivering high safety and output standards.

The concrete batching train produces high-quality concrete directly on site. It precisely doses aggregates and uses the high-performance Ovecrete® mix, ensuring efficiency and consistent quality.

This integrated solution will allow the removal of the existing track and the installation of the new slabs within a short time, through mechanized operations that increase productivity and operator safety.

The FAST System will enhance track system quality and significantly reduce long-term maintenance needs. It also improves aesthetics, contributes to creating cleaner and healthier station environments, and enables easier cleaning — all crucial qualities for a modern transport hub.

Thanks to this project, Roma Termini will gain a modern, durable railway infrastructure ready to meet mobility demands for decades to come.
